115 killed and nearly 300 wounded in suicide bombing in Pakistan

Sadly these bombing are not an isolated event as they are connected to a series of suicide bombings that have occurred in the buildup to the Pakistani Elections.  The connection is due to the fact that  they were brought about by the tension of the upcoming election. In addition, this event is connected to many other suicide bombings in the Middle East because of the fact that both are a result of extremist Muslims. I predict that such violence and bombings will continue up to and through the elections. I also expect that whoever is voted into power will be helpless to fight against these terrorists. This notion urges me to ask first "what can/ will be done to stop such a tragedy from reoccurring?" and second "what drives people to commit such atrocities". Many terrorists use religion as a scapegoat for their actions, but I do not understand what goal they seek to active through such actions.
