Peace in the Phillipines

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/08/world/asia/manila-and-rebel-group-take-step-toward-peace-plan.html?_r=1&ref=world
A good sign for the progress in the world is the peace that the Manilan government is planning with the rebels in the Phillipines. The Moro Islamic Liberation have rebelled against the government, seeking their own country in the mostly Islamic region of the Phillipines, and the resulting peace is because of peace talks since 2001. I think that this new peace is proof of how we don't need to solve everything with violence, and that not every government in the world likes to use war and guns to win a problem. Their president, Benigno S. Aquino, acknowledged that this wasn't the final act in their goals, but it was a big step forward. I think that we could learn a lot about how to handle delicate situations like these form the way that the Phillipinan government handled this. Even though it took a while, they handled it appropriately and prevented further loss of life, while still managing to keep their country whole. It would be interesting to see whether America could handle something as dramatic as this as well.
