Accusations of Israeli Bombing Met with Silence

On Wednesday, an unidentified aircraft bombed a weapons factory in the Sudanese capital city of Khartoum. While the Sudanese government is blaming the attack on Israel, they have received no confirmation from Israeli officials of the attack.

While Israel has neither denied nor confirmed the attack, they mention that Sudan is suspected of supplying weapons to militants in Gaza, to which Sudan denies. Sudan says that they have no capability of doing such as they have an embargo on them, established by the U.S. in 1997.

Israeli newspapers bring up points that if it turns out that Israel did perform this airstrike, it should come as a warning to Iranians, considering the flight from Israel to Iranian nuclear facilities is 200 miles shorter than the 1,180 mile flight from Israel to Khartoum.

For years, Israel has threatened to strike Iran's nuclear facilities, out of fear that they are being used to develop a nuclear weapon to use against Israel, but Iran has dismissed the threats, calling them a bluff. However, it seems that Iran should be rethinking their dismissal now that the possibility of Israel executing such a long range mission is possible.

I believe that this was an Israeli attack and that their next target will probably be Iran. I believe that it is very possible for this journey to be made by the Israeli planes and their ability go unnoticed should not be underestimated. If I were the Iranians, I would be worried.

NY Times: Official Silence in Israel Over Sudan’s Accusations of Air Attack

  1. Evan, This is a great topic, I personally used something similar myself. I find your statement at the end of your post to be interesting "If I were the iranians, I would be worried." This topic, as you well know if very touchy. People around the world, especially America has very mixed views, and opinions on how to deal with constant conflict between Israel and its violent neighbors. In this article we are told about a bombing, unfortunately, one of many that has occurred over the last 6 months. Unfortunately for either of the Countries, i fear that unnecessary violence will take place causing pointless deaths, and lost family members. I fear the escalation between Israel and its neighboring countries will soon reach a breaking point. From my point of view, I find it hard to draw a conclusion as to how Israel should act on such high level threats, or to the supposed bombing your article mentions in Khartoum. I wish is that such violence ceases and an agreement can be formed around such a long standing dispute.
